Your essay, written by you. Just better.
Six or twelve private sessions with Naomi Whitcomb, working on the personal statement and supplements until they sound like your student and not like a template.
Larkfield Learning runs small online classes in test prep, writing, math, science and world languages. Four students to a room, one certified teacher, and progress you can actually see.
I taught for fourteen years in Rhode Island public schools, eleven of them chairing an English department in Warwick. The students who slipped were rarely the ones who couldn't do the work — they were the ones nobody had time to ask a second question.
So in 2014 I started Larkfield with two colleagues and a rule we've never broken: four students to a room, and the same teacher every single week. Today thirty-eight certified teachers work here, and every one of them writes to families directly.

Ninety percent of class time is spoken Spanish from week two. Placement call first, so nobody starts in the wrong level.
One essay a week, marked up line by line, workshopped out loud. Built for students who freeze at a blank page.
We ask about the student before we ask about the schedule. Here is who usually turns up.
Has a target school and a test date circled. Needs structure, timed practice, and someone tracking the gap.
Reads Spanish fine, freezes when asked to speak it. Needs low-stakes talking time every week.
Missed a unit and never caught up. Needs the gap named honestly, then filled without embarrassment.
Finishes early and stares out the window. Needs harder material and a teacher who will hand it over.

Still teaching 7thEight programs, all live, all capped at four students. Prices are per twelve-week term.
Applied at checkout to any twelve-week program. Includes a free placement call, so your student starts in the right level.
You talk to a teacher, not a rep. We ask what the last report card said, what the student thinks is going wrong, and what you have already tried.
Free. Weekday evenings and Saturday mornings, Eastern time.
A short written or spoken assessment tells us the actual starting level. You get a one-page plan naming the gaps we intend to close this term.
Language students speak with a native-speaker instructor before placement.
Your student joins the group and does real work. If the fit is wrong, tell us and we move them or refund you. No conversation needed beyond that.
Groups are capped at four and never mixed across levels.
Two or three sentences from the teacher: what was covered, what clicked, what is still shaky. Written by the person who taught the class.
Plus a progress review with you at week six and week twelve.
We survey every family at the end of a term. The most common answer is not a test score at all: it is that homework stopped being a fight.

Self-reported by families, not independently verified. Larkfield Learning is a tutoring service; we do not guarantee grades, test scores or admissions outcomes. Individual results vary with attendance and effort.
Every program starts with one free session. If it isn't right, we move your student to a different group or refund the term in full within seven days of the first paid class. You can also cancel any upcoming term before it starts at no cost.
“Two months in, my daughter started explaining her chemistry homework to me at dinner. Unprompted. I don't have a data point for that, but it's the reason we re-enrolled.”

She had taken Spanish for three years and would not say a sentence out loud. Four students in the room made the difference. By week five she was arguing with her teacher about soccer, in Spanish.
The Friday notes are the part nobody else does. Two sentences from the actual teacher, every week, so I knew what was shaky before the test told me.
My son missed a whole geometry unit after surgery. His Larkfield teacher found the exact hole in about ten minutes and never once made him feel behind for having it.
Live, always, with the same teacher every week. Sessions are recorded so your student can rewatch, and recordings are deleted after 30 days.
We cap enrollment per section and open a new section instead of adding a fifth seat. If a level is full, we will tell you the next start date rather than putting your student in the wrong group.
Thirty-eight teachers, all state-certified, most still teaching in classrooms. Language instructors are native or near-native speakers. Everyone is background checked before they meet a student.
Group students get the recording plus the teacher's notes, and can join another section that week if a seat is open. Private students can reschedule up to twelve hours before.
Sections run from 3pm to 9pm Eastern on weekdays and Saturday mornings, which covers after-school hours in every continental US time zone. Alaska and Hawaii families usually take Saturday sections.
Yes. Send it to us before the placement call and we will match your student with an instructor who has taught those accommodations. We are a supplement to school services, not a replacement for them.
You get a written progress review and a recommendation: continue, change level, or stop. Ninety-two percent of families continue, and we would rather tell you when the answer is stop.
Twenty minutes on the phone, a placement check, then a real class. If it isn't right, you have lost nothing.
